About the Scholarship
The Everett Hanes Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the life of Everett Hanes and to carry his legacy forward in a meaningful way. This scholarship reflects a belief that lives matter, futures matter, and that hope can grow even after loss.
Be The Light. Speak Up. Speak Out. awards a $2,500 scholarship to a graduating senior from Weeping Water High School who is pursuing a future in health care, mental health, or a technical trade. Through this scholarship, we invest in students who are committed to helping, supporting, and strengthening their communities.
Why This Scholarship Matters
Loss leaves questions that may never be fully answered. The Everett Hanes Memorial Scholarship exists to transform remembrance into action by supporting young people who are choosing paths rooted in service, care, and building a better future.
By investing in education and skill building, this scholarship honors Everett’s life while helping students take meaningful steps toward careers that impact others.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be a graduating senior at Weeping Water High School
• Plan to pursue education or training in health care, mental health, or a technical trade
• Demonstrate a commitment to service, growth, and positive community impact
Award Details
• One $2,500 scholarship awarded based on available funding
• Funds are paid directly to the recipient’s school
• Scholarship funds may be used toward tuition, training, or other educational expenses
• Recipient is selected through an application review process coordinated by Be The Light. Speak Up. Speak Out.
